How, other than scrubbing it off, can/do you safely get make-up off from around the eye area?

It might depend on what type of makeup you're trying to remove, but Johnson's baby shampoo is great for things like that, especially things like red/yellow cream makeup that have a tendency to stain the skin.
Mary Kay Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover.
I'm trying to remove Ben Nye's Creme Theatrical makeup... Basic foundation and highlight/ shadow...
Kryolan's hydro remover is also a good choice for this but any kind of cold cream will also work.

Personally I'm not sensitive and have always mixed noxzema together with an apricot scrub to remove heavy makeup. The noxzema will break down the creme makeup while the apricot scrub will get it out of my pores.
