Inaugural Video Chat with Chauvet and LED Engin

This Wednesday, August 10, at 2 p.m. EDT/11 a.m. PDT TheatreFace.com starts a new feature -- live, video chat interviews with some of theatre's biggest movers and shakers. We're lining up great guests, and are excited to kick off this new feature with an interview with some people who bring you some of the most innovative new products out there, Chauvet Lighting and LEDEngin. Anyone interested can watch the chat live at: www.theatreface.com/videochat

From Chauvet, Ford Sellers (their senior product development manager) and Mike Graham (product dev manager for Chauvet's professional line) will be onscreen to chat about what new products they're developing, and how they'll fit in with theatre. We'll be getting even deeper than that, though: David Tahmassebi, CEO of LEDEngin, a LED manufacturer and supplier, will also be joining us on the chat, to talk about the state of LEDs today, and what we can expect from them in the future.

And of course, the chat will still be based around your questions! In addition to culling questions asked on this blog post, during the live streaming interview TheatreFace.com members can type their questions in the chat room and I'll ask them, or they can send a tweet to @stagedirections.

We're really excited about this feature, so please join us Wednesday as we kick off the series!

Is there a solution to avoid the "pop-in" and "Drop-out" of LED instruments at the bottom of the dimmer curve?

Why the big difference between LED fixtures that (spec-wise) seem to look the same? Why would one RGB LED PAR cost $1000 and another $150, when the stats seem to match? Isn't an LED and LED?

I have a problem selling ignorant administrators on Chauvet products because "It's cheap so it must not be any good.  How Can I sell them on "Budget Solutions"?

And hey -- just so you all know -- here are the questions I've prepped for the interview!

Can you give us the status of the LED light as you see it – from both your perspectives? (Chauvet as a lighting manufacturer, LEDEngin as the engine manufacturer.)

Are we seeing any flattening to Haitz’s law?

When will the LED be as commonplace as a household lamp? When will prices match an incandescent today?

What are the differences in heat management in an LED fixture? How does that affect what fixtures you can create?

What are applications/ideas that LEDs could be used for that we in the entertainment industry may not have thought of yet?

What are the benefits of LEDs to theatres?

As a designer, color is one of the most important -- and touchy -- subjects out there. As such, differences in colors from an LED source is a huge priority. What are the obstacles in the manufacturing process that prevent matching color? How do you as manufacturers work to get consistent color?

Do you have any tips for matching LED color to your incandescent, or HMI, or dichroic fixtures?

Why the big difference between LED fixtures that (spec-wise) seem to look the same? Why would one RGB LED PAR cost $1000 and another $150, when the stats seem to match? Isn't an LED and LED?
